Ariana Grande just gave a big thumbs up to Halle Bailey’s dreamy cover of “Hampstead,” one of the new tracks from the Eternal Sunshine (Deluxe) reissue — and we’re all emotional about it.
Halle posted a video on Instagram of her singing the song in the studio, casually slaying while playing guitar and adding her own soulful twist to Ari’s lyrics. Ariana saw it and commented, “so beautiful” with some hearts and a teary-eyed emoji (aka the ultimate Ari stamp of approval). She even reposted it to her Story.
In the video, Halle’s voice is crystal clear, and she adds these smooth little riffs that totally make the song her own. The lyrics are already a rollercoaster of feelings, and she just takes it to another level:
“I left my heart at a pub in Hampstead / And I misplaced my mind in a good way…” Yeah, we’re not okay.
She captioned the post with, “hampstead is my fav song off ariana’s deluxe :),” and honestly? Valid.
The song just debuted at No. 59 on the Billboard Hot 100 and is one of six new tracks added to Eternal Sunshine (Deluxe): Brighter Days Ahead, which dropped March 28. “Hampstead” is rumored to be about Ariana’s breakup with Dalton Gomez, and considering the lyrics and the fact she lived in that London neighborhood while filming Wicked, the math is mathing.
Halle’s cover comes not long after her own breakup with DDG, with whom she shares a baby boy, Halo. DDG recently dropped a track that seemed to vent some post-breakup frustrations about custody stuff — so yeah, emotions are running high on both sides.
Meanwhile, Halle’s been on her own musical wave lately, releasing “Back and Forth” on Valentine’s Day, plus last year’s “Because I Love You” and “Angel.”
Moral of the story? Women with angelic vocals are out here healing, vibing, and singing through the chaos — and we’re lucky to witness it.
