Folk and indie music is slowly coming back into resurgence and it has been for a few years now music listeners are opting in for a more calm peaceful sound of music.
Folk and Indie music is seeing a comeback with it being more of a deeper, introspective sound and more artist are releasing this music at a rapid rate artist such as Lizzy McAlpine, Noah Kahn, Hozier just to name a few of the more popular artist. This genre of music is gaining popularity due to songwriting being the main focus for artist in 2026 and the fans are enjoying the more slow, introspective sound selling out a lot of these artist shows.
Indie and Folk are becoming big with smaller artist as well seeking smaller more independent record labels to work with. Giving them more freedom and independence to work and do what they want. Stats show around 50% of music in 2025 was unsigned artist and being 35% of revenue for music globally. Some of these artist include people like Hudson Freeman, Cameron winter, and Alex amen just to name a few.
A few other reasons this style is making a resurgence is because it is cross mixing styles and genres into the sound. Such as indie-folk or Folk-Punk which are gaining popularity. A part of this is also the change of digital media being made to day is more artificial and fake then real and raw which is what this genre is all about.
