Luka Dončić has made one thing clear heading into the 2025–26 NBA season: he’s not here to wait—he’s here to win.
The 26-year-old superstar guard is entering his first full season with the Los Angeles Lakers after a blockbuster February trade from Dallas. Despite playing only 28 regular season games for L.A., Dončić averaged an impressive 28.1 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.5 assists, helping the team secure 50 wins and the No. 3 seed in the West. However, a disappointing first-round playoff exit to the Minnesota Timberwolves left Dončić hungry for more.
According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, Dončić has a “win-now” mentality as he trains this offseason. A source close to Dončić told McMenamin, “This isn’t signing with the Lakers and saying, ‘I’ll be patient.’ It’s ‘I want to win this year. I want to win every year I’m here.’”
That drive has manifested in more than just words. Dončić recently unveiled a dramatic physical transformation on the cover of Men’s Health, revealing a leaner, more conditioned physique thanks to a strict diet and revamped training routine. Magic Johnson, Lakers legend and Hall of Famer, took to social media to praise Dončić, writing, “I love how Luka is showing his Laker teammates how serious he is about winning a championship in Los Angeles by transforming his body!”
With LeBron James towards the end of his career, Dončić is quickly becoming the face of the franchise. He’s expected to sign a four-year, $229 million extension upon returning from a Jordan Brand tour—further solidifying his long-term commitment to L.A.
Strengthened by the additions of center Deandre Ayton and veteran guard Marcus Smart, alongside players with LeBron and Austin Reaves, the Lakers appear poised for another deep postseason run. With a healthy and revived Dončić, expectations are sky-high. As of late, Luka’s mindset makes one thing certain: Luka Doncic is ready to raise banners in purple and gold.
