On Tuesday, Seattle Mariners General Manager announced that Victor Robles would miss at least 12 weeks due to a shoulder dislocation.
The Mariners were facing the San Francisco Giants on Sunday, with Robles in right field. When a foul ball was hit in his direction, Robles chased down the ball near the stands. He went over the low railing in foul territory to make the catch. He flipped over the barrier and slammed into the netting behind it. As he landed, he flung the ball away with his right hand and immediately grabbed his left arm in visible pain.
Robles, the Mariners’ leadoff hitter was batting .273 and had three doubles on the season. He was first placed on the 10-day injured list on Monday, till imaging revealed a small fracture in a bone in the shoulder due to the dislocation. The injury is expected to heal with no surgery in six weeks, with an additional six-weeks of rehabilitation.
Since joining the Mariners as a free agent in June following his release from the Nationals, 27-year-old Robles has appeared in 87 games. During that stretch, he’s hit .319, scored 44 runs, hit 23 doubles, four home runs, and 29 RBIs, drawn 16 walks, and successfully stolen 33 bases in 34 attempts.
