Micah Parsons Still Waiting on New Deal as Cowboys Drag Feet

As training camp looms, Micah Parsons remains one of the NFL’s biggest stars without a long-term contract extension—and it’s raising eyebrows in Dallas.

The All-Pro linebacker, entering the final year of his rookie deal, has yet to reach a new agreement with the Cowboys. Despite multiple public assurances from team executives that Parsons is “a priority,” negotiations appear stalled heading into the final stretch of the offseason.

Parsons, who’s posted double-digit sacks in each of his first three seasons and is widely viewed as a Defensive Player of the Year contender, has made it clear he wants to be paid like a cornerstone. He’s also made it clear—through both social media posts and subtle offseason comments—that he’s watching the situation closely.

“Business is business,” Parsons said last month when asked about the hold-up. “I just focus on football and let my team handle the rest.”

The Cowboys, meanwhile, are balancing a tight cap sheet. With CeeDee Lamb already extended and quarterback Dak Prescott eligible for a new deal himself, the front office has financial decisions to make—fast. But most analysts agree: locking up Parsons should be at the top of the list.

The risk for Dallas? Waiting too long could either alienate Parsons or allow the price tag to climb even higher if he has another monster season.

Training camp opens this week, and as of now, Parsons is expected to report on time and participate fully. But every day that passes without a deal brings more questions about why one of the league’s most dominant defenders isn’t locked up long-term.

In Dallas, the clock is ticking—and Micah Parsons is watching.
