“The Mandalorian and Grogu” in theaters on May 22

The upcoming spring release marks a new era for Star Wars, as it’s the first film to be released in theaters since “The Rise of Skywalker” in 2019.

Released earlier today, the full official trailer took the internet by storm and is now No. 2 on YouTube’s trending chart for movies.

The film picks up after the end of the hit three-season TV series, “The Mandalorian”. Following a bounty hunter (the Mandalorian) on his journey with the force-sensitive Grogu, the series takes place five years after “Return of the Jedi” in the Star Wars timeline.

Receiving 15 Emmy awards, the critically acclaimed series brought a new level of triumph to Disney and the Star Wars franchise.

“The Mandalorian” debuted on Disney+ the same day that the streaming platform made its debut on Nov. 12, 2019.

The series’ international success marked a major win for Disney+, as it greatly increased the popularity of the newly released streaming platform.

Serving as a huge achievement for the Star Wars franchise, the series ushered in a new era of live-action TV for the franchise.

“The Mandalorian and Grogu” reportedly has a low budget compared to other Disney-era Star Wars films, according to Collider. Cutting production costs makes the film an almost guaranteed box office success, considering Grogu’s popularity with mainstream audiences.

Often referred to as “Baby Yoda,” the beloved Grogu garnered the attention of millions since the series’ debut.

Loved for his cuteness and for contributing to the mystery that is Yoda’s unknown species, Grogu is the face of countless Star Wars merchandise.

The trailer revealed an adorable character and potential new face of cuteness for the franchise, a baby Rodian.

The trailer also announced the fan favorite character Embo’s (from the animated “Clone Wars” series) live-action debut.

The film stars Pedro Pascal, who’s played the Mandalorian in all three seasons of the series.

Fans can see “The Mandalorian and Grogu” in theaters and IMAX, starting May 22.
