The utter force to be reckoned with, Gracie Abrams, captivates her audience through her deeply personal writing that’s resonated with millions of listeners across the world.
The accomplished singer-songwriter’s third studio album is in the works with a speculated 2026 release date. As Abrams continues to tease her upcoming album, let’s take a look back at the 26-year-old superstar’s top-notch discography.
Abrams began writing in elementary school and developed a deep love for songwriting through her love of journaling.
Her journey to stardom began when she started posting videos of herself singing her original songs on social media. Her vulnerability and authenticity could be felt through the screen, part of what makes her so one of a kind.
After years of writing in her room, Abrams released her first song, “Mean It” in October 2019.
In July 2020, she released her first EP, “minor” which details the events of her former heartbreaks, friendships and her mental health struggles.
The title track, “minor” reveals Abrams’ desire for independence, as she felt stuck at home as a teenager, with lyrics like, “I would drive all night to get to you but my curfew is early and mom’s up at home” and “dad’s at the door.”
The seven-track EP serves as a beautiful introduction to Abrams’ standout songwriting with adored songs like “I miss you, I’m sorry” and “21” and deep cuts like “Long Sleeves”.
The powerful songwriting on this EP inspired Olivia Rodrigo to write her record-breaking hit, “drivers license”.
Abrams released her second EP, “This Is What It Feels Like” in November 2021.
The EP contains songs that were co-written and produced by The National’s Aaron Dessner. Dessner is most known for his work with Taylor Swift on albums such as the Grammy-winning “folklore” and “The Tortured Poets Department”.
“This Is What It Feels Like” is the epitome of sad girl fall and features gut-wrenching songs that have been deemed as fan favorites.
The fourth track, “Camden” is a compelling look into Abrams’ darkest thoughts and insecurities. The beloved bridge repeats the lyrics, “All of me, a wound to close but I leave the whole thing open. I just wanted you to know, I was never good at coping.” It’s one of those songs you can listen to a million times and yet, the words still stab you in the heart with each and every listen.
Released in February 2023, Abrams’ debut album, “Good Riddance” shattered fans’ hearts with devastatingly honest lyrics and beautifully crafted songs that feel like they were written about our own lives and torn from our very own journals.
With notable lyrics like, “I’m a shameless caller, you’re a full machine” and “I swear to God, I’d kill you if I loved you less hard,” Abrams put her emotions into pure poetry.
“Good Riddance” has a special place in both the fans’ and Abrams’ hearts. “There’s something about making this album that felt so right and natural the entire time, and devastating, too,” said Abrams in an interview with Billboard.
Preserving the intimate feel of the album, Abrams and Dessner performed small-venue acoustic shows as a way to celebrate the album and its special relationship with the fans. Since the completion of the “Good Riddance Tour” and the acoustic shows, Abrams has said that she misses the tour and that it “felt like home”.
During this cherished era, Abrams received her first Grammy nomination for Best New Artist.
The release of Abrams’ second album, “The Secret of Us” marks a shift in Abrams’ songwriting style, as she took on a more extroverted approach than ever before.
Co-written by Abrams’ childhood best friend, Audrey Hobert, “The Secret of Us” has an open and conversational writing style. Featuring brutally honest lyrics like, “Every page that I wrote, you were on it” and “but I could die, knowing that you’re probably out somewhere while I’m in my underwear, eating through my feelings,” the album reveals just how much of an open book Abrams truly is.
Released in June 2024, the album quickly became No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart, topping her previous album that peaked at No. 7. The album contains a Grammy-nominated track featuring Swift titled “Us”.
The deluxe version of the album includes Abrams’ first No.1 streaming song, “That’s So True”. Greeted by the enthusiastic screams of the fans, Abrams performed the No.1 hit and crowd-pleaser every night on her most recent tour, “The Secret of Us Deluxe Tour”.
Managing to write songs with the same authenticity and vulnerability that she writes in her journal, Abrams has made a name for herself in the music industry.
It’s safe to say that her career is just getting started, and she will continue to create a long-lasting legacy with the release of her third studio album.
