Universal Music Group (UMG) has announced its latest partnership with KLAY Vision Inc. to develop an ethical and commercial model of artificial intelligence applied to music, promoting a harmonious relationship between the music industry and its creators.
Although the details have yet to be revealed, the project includes an advanced music model called KLAYMM, which promises to elevate AI-driven music technology to a new level, offering global experiences based on artificial intelligence without competing with artists’ catalogs or rights.
“We are excited to partner with entrepreneurs like the team at KLAY to explore new opportunities and ethical solutions for artists and the broader music ecosystem,” commented Michael Nash, Executive Vice President and Chief Digital Officer at Universal Music.
The KLAYMM team includes industry veterans such as Chief Content Officer Thomas Hesse, Head of Engineering Matt Avent, and incoming Head of Research Björn Winckler. Their experience spans significant contributions to both music and AI technology.
This collaboration is part of a series of partnerships that UMG has established with AI developers and related companies, reinforcing its leadership in technological innovation while protecting human creativity. Among its recent collaborations, UMG has launched an AI incubator with YouTube, generative AI platforms like ProRata.ai, and the vocal plugin MicDrop from SoundLabs. Earlier this year, UMG also released its first AI-powered production: a Spanish version of Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree.”
UMG continues to lead the industry in integrating new technologies, supporting entrepreneurship, and protecting artistic integrity.
