In a shocking turn of events, two individuals have been arrested for orchestrating a fraudulent scheme that exploited Taylor Swift’s wildly popular Eras Tour. The duo allegedly stole and resold concert tickets, raking in over $600,000, according to the Queens District Attorney’s Office in New York.

A Breach of Trust

Tyrone Rose, 20, of Kingston, Jamaica, and Shamara Simmons, 31, of Queens, New York, are facing serious charges, including grand larceny, conspiracy, and computer tampering. The investigation revealed that both individuals were employed by a third-party contractor associated with StubHub, where they accessed and redirected ticket URLs meant for legitimate buyers.

Once intercepted, the stolen tickets were downloaded and resold for profit. Authorities estimate that around 350 orders were compromised, leading to the theft of nearly 1,000 tickets, most of which were for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. However, the fraudulent activity extended beyond Swift’s concerts, affecting Adele, Ed Sheeran, NBA games, and even the U.S. Open Tennis Championships.

The Investigation Unfolds

The scheme, which ran from June 2022 to July 2023, was uncovered when StubHub detected irregular activity and alerted authorities. Investigators determined that Rose and another accomplice in Jamaica executed the digital theft, while Simmons and another individual in Queens handled the resale. Tragically, one of the Queens-based conspirators has since passed away.

StubHub responded swiftly, refunding or replacing affected orders and bolstering its security measures to prevent future breaches. The ticket resale giant has since severed ties with the third-party vendor involved in the scandal.

Legal Consequences

Both Rose and Simmons were arrested and arraigned in New York, facing multiple charges, including:

  • Second-degree grand larceny
  • First-degree computer tampering
  • Fourth-degree conspiracy
  • Fourth-degree computer tampering

Legal representatives for the accused have yet to provide comments on the case.
