Doechii is officially Billboard’s 2025 Woman of the Year, putting her in the same category as previous artists such as Taylor Swift, SZA, Lady Gaga, and last year’s winner, Karol G.
This award comes just a month after she made history at the Grammys, becoming only the third woman to ever win Best Rap Album. During her emotional acceptance speech, she corrected herself mid-sentence, realizing the weight of the moment: “This category was introduced in 1989. Two women have won. Lauryn Hill” she paused, then corrected herself. “Three women have won. Lauryn Hill, Cardi B, and Doechii.”
Now, she’s set to be recognized at the Billboard Women in Music Awards on March 29, joining past honorees like Madonna, Cardi B, Billie Eilish, Selena Gomez, and Ariana Grande.
Doechii’s breakout mixtape, Alligator Bites Never Heal, was named one of the best albums of 2024 by The Associated Press. The project showcased her unique vocals that are mixed with smooth R&B with a insane rap flow.
“Doechii is taking pop culture by storm. This year, she became only the third woman in history to win a Grammy for Best Rap Album and continues to captivate fans across all genres with her incredible performances, raw lyrics, and one-of-a-kind style,” said Hannah Karp, Billboard’s Editor-in-Chief. “We’re beyond excited to celebrate her success.”
Other artists being honored at the Billboard Women in Music Awards include aespa, Ángela Aguilar, Erykah Badu, GloRilla, Gracie Abrams, Blackpink’s Jennie, Megan Moroney, Meghan Trainor, Muni Long, and Tyla.
Hosted by Laverne Cox, the show will take place at the YouTube Theater at Hollywood Park in Los Angeles. Fans can watch it live on March 29 at 7 p.m. PT on VIZIO WatchFree+.
