Los Angeles Sparks forward Cameron Brink is officially set to make her long-anticipated return Tuesday night against the Las Vegas Acesâmarking her first game back since tearing her ACL and meniscus 13 months ago. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft had been sidelined since June 18, 2024, just 15 games into a promising rookie campaign that showcased her as one of the leagueâs top young defensive talents.
Prior to the injury, Brink averaged 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game, providing elite rim protection for the Sparks. Now healthy and cleared for play, she re-enters the lineup during a crucial stretch. Los Angeles is riding a league-best five-game win streak and sits just one game back from a playoff spot. With Brinkâs return, the Sparks will have their full 11-player roster available for the first time this season.
âIt means the world,â Brink told the Long Beach Press-Telegram. âItâs no easy thing to come back from. Iâm just very excited and humbled by this experience.â
While head coach Lynne Roberts confirmed Brink will be on a minutes restriction initially, she expressed confidence in the 6-foot-4 forwardâs impact. âSheâs been tremendous,â Roberts said. âTo stay positive while rehabbing for over a yearâsheâs shown nothing but commitment.â
The injury not only sidelined Brink for the WNBA season but also forced her to miss the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she had been selected to represent Team USA in 3×3 basketball.
âIâm not a very patient person,â Brink admitted. âThis whole process has taught me a lot. I just want to bring my energy, support my teammates, and help us keep winning. Weâre having fun, and I want to add to that momentum.â
As the Sparks push for a postseason berth, Brinkâs return couldnât come at a better timeâbringing not only her defensive prowess but also a renewed spirit that could spark a powerful second-half push.
