Dear Ghostface fans, are excited for the new movie release of Scream 7? I know I am. The Scream Franchise has now released it’s seventh movie coming out February 27, 2026. Fan’s have been speculating that new movie with include favored characters coming back from the “dead”. However, with the directors and writers core theme history theres a potential that this could be AI. Let’s unpack the rumors and possibilities.
SPOILER WARNING
Deceit by Deepfake: The Technology That Could Weaponize Ghostface’s Past
Directors and Writers of the Scream Franchise have been widely known and respected for their ability to intricate plots and surprise their loyal fanbase. They tend to act upon contemporary media of horror tropes and play into societal fears while mixing a sense of suspense and humor. By look at these core themes in the movie franchise we can make the assumption that AI could play a big role in the movie. In Scream 1996 the first ever movie, the writers and directors mocked a core theme of virginity tropes that we see in every old classic horror movie. In Scream 5 & 6 they dive into true crime obsession and toxic fandoms trying to create requels. This gives us reason to believe that in scream 7 the next step for them to take in modern media commentary is the terror of digital manipulation. The new ghost face could be using AI to portray deepfake voices and possible fake video killings of past dead characters like Roman, Dewey Stu in order to stir fear and trauma for our current survivors.

The Legal and Logical Case for Stu’s Survival
However, although we probably wont see some of our favorite characters back on screen like Roman who was shot in the head by Dewey at the end of Scream 7 there is possibility for some of the characters like Stu who is the only Ghostface to never be shot in the head and had a suspected death. We have reason to believe that Stu’s ressurrrection has been long planned before the second movie of the franchise. The Theory “Stu Macher is alive” has been a circulating debate that has grown very popular and very controversial. Fans suspect that Stu could have survived his suspected death scene and has came back and has been orchestrating the new ghost face killings from prison or a secret facility. This poses the question how could Stu survive the unsurvivable? If Stu were to be alive directors and writers would need to overcome three major hurrdles: survival, recreation, and drive. Stu had been stabbed multiple times by Billy and had a old television dropped on his head which resulted in him being electrocuted. Fans could argue that the tv could have knocked him unconscious rather than killing him and that his death was a misdirect that was further planned out. We can also suspect that Stu’s wealthy family could have contributed to the cover up of his survival keeping him hidden in a maximum security facility. Additionally, in past movies Billy gets more recognition for all the killings rather than Stu’s and Billy contribution n partnership. Billy being seen as the brains and the one committing that act and Stu being seen as just a sidekick. This might drive to Stu to finish what he started and gain the recognition that he has been seeking after years of being forgotten and hidden away.
Lastly, what are your theories? Is there a possibility of Stu coming back to life? Is there any possibility for any other characters that have been killed off to come back to life?
