“My Regards” is the long-awaited fourth single from Maisie Peters’ upcoming album, “Florescence”.
Peters began teasing the song on Instagram and TikTok back in January, describing it as a song for “people who fall in love and go full throttle unhinged.”
The song details a passionate kind of love that makes you so reckless and possessive that you feel like you’ve become their bodyguard. With lyrics like, “call me Kevin Costner, the way I’m guarding his body” and “now I’m sewing his name in my 509s,” Peters doesn’t hold back.
“It’s a subversion of the classic love song trope, an ode to and twist on all my favourite country songs, the sexiest song I’ve released in a landslide and also the silliest, and also the most powerful, and also the most vulnerable,” said Peters in an Instagram post where she announced the release of the music video.
Accustomed to writing unhinged anthems, the 25-year-old singer-songwriter penned the lyrics, “mister ‘I don’t want a label’, you made me little miss unstable,” “all these boys tryna claim my discography, never heard of them once” and “I been going Jack Nicholson, crazy in my living room,” earlier on in her iconic career.
Directed by Amelia Dimoldenberg, the music video features Peters as an overly involved body guard and Benito Skinner as the famous man she’s protecting who’s also her love interest.
The music video follows the entangled body guard around the hotel as she attempts to keep the clingy fans away from Skinner’s character.
As the famous man seeks refuge under a table, the scene changes to the bodyguard rummaging through his luggage upstairs in his hotel room.
Peters’ character plays with his clothes and dances on his bed before it flashes back to him narrowly escaping the obsessive fans as she carries him back to his room.
A line dance occurs throughout the music video, highlighting the fun nature of this upbeat and silly song. Peters expressed her desire for this song to break the tension between the more vulnerable songs on the album when she performs it live.
Peters’ official HQ account will give away a pair of tickets to one of her “Before The Bloom” shows to a lucky fan who posts a video of themselves doing the dance with the hashtag “myregardslinedance” before Thursday, Feb. 19.
The music video’s reached over 200k views since its release on Friday at 9 a.m. GMT.
You can pre-save and pre-order the album now, before its official release on May 15.
