Olivia Rodrigo recounts a humorous and somewhat stressful experience she had while being interrogated at the Canadian border. During her conversation on The Tonight Show, she explained how she was mistakenly identified as a criminal named Olivia Rodriguez, who had a criminal record. This led to an intense interrogation where she was questioned by a federal officer.
Rodrigo, who is currently on her Guts world tour, described the incident as her first encounter with law enforcement, but definitely not the type of “crime” she ever expected. She explained that as she crossed from Canada to Portland, she handed over her passport without a hitch—until a border officer came to her bus and asked for “Olivia.” Thinking the officer might want an autograph, Rodrigo stepped off the bus and ended up in a room with a law enforcement officer who questioned her about possible past arrests.
The situation escalated to the point where Rodrigo began to doubt her own memory ,”I’m like, ‘Oh, my God, maybe I was, like, arrested and I didn’t know it,” she recalled. However, after the officer checked further, he realized the mix-up—there was another person with a similar name, Olivia Rodriguez, who had a criminal history. Rodrigo was finally allowed to continue on her way.
Laughing about the mix-up, she said, “Jimmy, I’m pissed!” at the awkward mistake. Despite the confusing situation, Rodrigo is continuing her tour with upcoming shows in South America and Europe. Her Netflix special Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour also premiered recently, offering fans an inside look at her whirlwind tour life.
Rodrigo’s lighthearted approach to the incident shows how she handles even the strangest situations with humor and grace, proving that a sense of humor is essential in the face of unexpected challenges.
