NEW YORK — Yankees top prospect George Lombard Jr. and trade deadline addition Heliot Ramos made their Bronx debuts on Tuesday night, leading New York to a 2-0 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals at Yankee Stadium.
The win marked a significant moment for the organization as it integrates its premier young talent alongside newly acquired veterans for the stretch run.
A Debut to Remember for George Lombard Jr.
Lombard, New York’s highly regarded 21-year-old infielder whom general manager Brian Cashman notably kept off the table during trade deadline negotiations, started at shortstop and batted eighth after being called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
After grounding out in his first at-bat, Lombard made history in the fifth inning. Facing Cardinals starter Hunter Dobbins, Lombard drove an 0-2 sweeper 392 feet into the left-field seats for his first major league hit and home run, doubling New York’s lead to 2-0.

Acquired from the San Francisco Giants ahead of Monday’s trade deadline in exchange for minor leaguers Kaeden Kent and Henry Lalane, Heliot Ramos made his first appearance in pinstripes starting in left field.
While Ramos went 0-for-4 at the plate, he delivered in the field during a crucial sixth-inning moment, making a running catch in left field with two runners aboard to preserve New York’s scoreless outing.
