GOP Lawmakers Demand WNBA Accountability Over Attacks on Caitlin Clark

A group of 11 Republican lawmakers, led by U.S. Rep. August Pfluger of Texas, sent a letter to WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert on Wednesday demanding the league take “accountability” for “multiple attacks” against Fever star Caitlin Clark.

The letter, which was not immediately released publicly, reportedly calls on the WNBA to address what the lawmakers perceive as a pattern of hostility and criticism directed at the popular rookie player.

Caitlin Clark, who has become a cultural phenomenon since entering the league, has faced intense scrutiny and physical play from opponents, alongside a barrage of online commentary.

The lawmakers’ intervention highlights the growing political attention on professional sports and the cultural impact of star athletes like Clark.

The WNBA has yet to issue a formal response to the letter, but the league has previously stated its commitment to player safety and fair play.

This development comes as Clark continues to navigate her highly anticipated rookie season, drawing record viewership and significant media coverage.
