Ohtani’s Deal Clause Could Spark Future Uncertainty for Dodgers

A unique stipulation within Shohei Ohtani’s monumental deal, known as a “key man” clause, has emerged as a potential point of future contention. This clause, as reported by Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, grants Ohtani the right to opt out of his contract and explore free agency if either Dodgers owner Mark Walter or president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman departs the organization during the tenure of his deal.

While Friedman’s continued presence with the Dodgers appears stable, recent reports indicate a less certain standing for owner Mark Walter. This ambiguity surrounding Walter’s position could precipitate difficult discussions regarding Ohtani’s long-term future with the team.
