Spain has officially selected the dark comedy ‘La Bola Negra’ to represent the country in the Best International Feature Film category at the upcoming Academy Awards. The film, directed by Pedro Almodóvar, beat out several other strong contenders in a tight race to secure the coveted spot.
‘La Bola Negra’ has garnered critical acclaim for its unique blend of humor and poignant social commentary, exploring themes of identity and belonging in contemporary Spain. Its selection marks a significant moment for Spanish cinema, as the country aims to secure its first Oscar in this category in over a decade.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will announce the official shortlist of nominees in December, with the final nominations revealed in January. The 96th Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in March 2026.
