Charli XCX has been awarded Songwriter of the Year at the Brit Awards, solidifying her status as a major contender ahead of the ceremony on March 1.
She already leads with the most nomination at 5, including Artist of the Year and Album of the Year for Brat, which has been widely celebrated for its bold, innovative sound.
This is the first Brit award she has one after being nominated for best female and best pop act, but never winning in the past.
Previously, Charli critiqued the Brits for neglecting female artists by not nominating any in 2023 for the artist of the year category.
Also, her longtime collaborator, AG Cook, won Producer of the Year.
These awards signify the success and cultural phenomenon that was the album, Brat. It redefined pop music with its bold, club-inspired sound and unfiltered lyricism.
Its neon green aesthetic, viral dance trends (especially linked to Apple), and “Brat summer” movement made it a defining moment in 2024’s music scene. Fans embraced its chaotic energy, turning it into a social media sensation.
The album resonated deeply, capturing modern anxieties while still feeling fun and rebellious. Its success marked Charli’s transition from underground pop innovator to mainstream icon without compromising her artistic vision.
The Brit Awards take place on March 1 at London’s O2 Arena, featuring performances from Sam Fender, Sabrina Carpenter, and more. Other early winners include Myles Smith and Sabrina Carpenter.
