The New York Liberty dropped a tough one Sunday night, falling 79–70 to the Seattle Storm in a game that was theirs for the taking—until a disastrous third quarter derailed everything.
After taking a 39–33 lead into halftime, the Liberty completely unraveled after the break, managing just six points in the third frame—their lowest-scoring quarter of the season. Their ball movement stalled, the shooting went cold, and the Storm seized control.
Sabrina Ionescu was a bright spot, scoring 20 points in the first half and finishing with 26, but she couldn’t carry the load alone. Injuries to key contributors like Isabelle Harrison and Natasha Cloud limited the Liberty’s rotation, and it showed.
Seattle, led by Skylar Diggins-Smith and Jewell Loyd, capitalized on the momentum shift. The duo combined for 36 points and played suffocating perimeter defense that rattled New York’s ballhandlers late.
Now 12–6, the Liberty have dropped six of their last nine and are looking to regroup before their upcoming back-to-back set.
It’s still early, but this team has championship aspirations—and right now, they look out of rhythm.
