Today marks a new chapter for Demi Lovato: she’s officially released her ninth studio album, It’s Not That Deep through DLG Recordings and Island Records.
Following her rock-inspired project Holy Fvck (2022), Lovato is embracing a dance-pop revival with this new record. Produced and executive-produced by Zhone, the record reintroduces Lovato as an artist embracing joy rather than pain.
It’s Not That Deep features eleven tracks that lean fully into iconic pop production, synths, and club-ready beats. Its euphoric, danceable, and made to soundtrack late nights with friends. It’s a statement that she’s no longer weighed down by expectation or image, but instead, thriving in her own creative freedom.
The 33-year-old artist in her cover story for PAPER Magazine, “With my past eras I often wrote cathartic music about heavy topics … When I got back in the studio this time around, those songs just weren’t resonating … I’m happy, I’m in love, and I just want to enjoy life and have fun. I realized it’s not that deep anymore.”

For longtime fans, the album is a reminder of what made Demi Lovato a pop powerhouse in the first place; emotional honesty, paired with insane hooks. But for Lovato herself, it’s more than a comeback. It’s proof that happiness can be just as powerful a muse as heartbreak.
